Taming the sock drawer

Via the local public library's Hoopla app, I listened to the audio book, "The life-changing magic of tidying up" by Marie Kondo (of the KonMari Method). In the book, Ms. Kondo recommends neatly folding socks so as to preserve the elastic.

My mother taught me to roll socks into a ball as a child, and my husband's family folded socks over into a ball. Either method will eventually stretch out the elastic on the socks. So how to fold socks and keep them organized? As many people do, I turned to Google for a solution.

I found this honeycomb organizer at Bed Bath & Beyond for only $9.99 (and used the coupons from their ad as well. Did you know you can use one coupon per item? And that they accept expired coupons? Yes they do so save those coupons! End of digression.)

It's been a month now since I've organized our socks with the honeycomb and it is working out great!

You can download a free KonMari Method decluttering checklist here.

Free audio and e-books

You cannot get any thriftier about reading than having FREE access to audio and e-books! My local county public library subscribes to two such services: Hoopla and cloudLibrary. You will need three things to begin: a smartphone or tablet to download the apps, your library card number and the last four digits of your phone number used to sign up for the library card.

I would recommend steering clear of the Joopla guides on Hoopla. They are like Cliff Notes for the books you want to read and are much too condensed to use up your valuable limit of books per month.

Sometimes (and this might drive you nuts) Hoopla will not let you access a book saying that your library's limit has already been reached. Be patient and just keep trying, you will eventually succeed in accessing it.

So check your local library to see what their app subscriptions are and enjoy!
